Amazon tweeted – and then deleted – details of a cheaper version of its popular Echo Dot smart speaker.
The tweet, which was captured by eagle-eyed twitterer @Indypodcaster, reveals the new mini speaker will apparently cost $49.99 – $40 cheaper than the current Alexa-enabled Dot.
Apparently not? @amazonecho: Introducing the all-new Echo Dot. Add Alexa to any room – now for just $49.99. https://t.co/AQkwY5xbHh/s/Z-sj

Tech site Recode reached out to Amazon for comment but a spokesperson declined, suggesting that the tweet was a genuine accident.
This the latest of September’s social media gaffs after Apple’s blunder last week. During the company’s "See You on the 7th" event in San Francisco, Apple’s Twitter account began posting video clips of the new iPhone 7 complete with pre-order links before the phone had even been mentioned on stage.
Amazon is still yet to reveal a UK release date for any of the Echo range but it is rumoured that a press event on Wednesday will finally see details of the products making their way into the country.
