Acer reports surge in operating income

Acer’s operating income jumped almost 71 per cent in the first quarter of the year to $137.8 million, up from $80.8 million last year.

Profit after tax reached $103.5 million, an increase of 62.6 per cent on Q1 2009’s $63.7 million.

Consolidated revenues reached $5.1 billion, representing 36.1 per cent year-on-year growth, while operating income stood at $137.8 million, a rise of 70.6 per cent on Q1 2009.

According to Gartner’s preliminary PC Q1 worldwide shipment estimate, Acer’s shipments were up 54.5 per cent on last year, earning it the number one notebook manufacturer spot with 19.4 per cent market share.
