Acer chairman JT Wang said that notebook shipments would pick up in the end of the quarter and that the company would increase market share.

Responding to concerns from component manufacturers that volume orders were down in the last quarter, the Digitimes reported that Wang said Acer had not changed shipment guidance and that it was normal to see lower volume at the start of the quarter.

Wang reportedly pointed out that the company will begin shipping notebooks with the new Intel platform (Sandy Bridge) in December and that the firm would launch a tablet PC in the first quarter of 2011. Wang also said that the order drop in October and November was down to transition between platforms.

The Digitimes also cited “upstream component players” as saying that market leader HP did not seem likely to hit the forecast notebook shipment of four million units in November. The sources said that HP growth would be limited to a level between three and five per cent.
