BYOD trend continues – not always with good outcomes

75% of people bring their own devices to work

A survey by Fortinet has found that a significant proportion of people bring their own devices in to the workplace – whether or not it violates security policies.

Speaking at the Integralis Security World conference, Fortinet revealed that as many as three quarters of ‘Generation Y’ employees bring their own devices in to work with 50 per cent of them regarding it as a right rather than a privilege.

Unfortunately, it’s not always effective in improving productivity. In many cases it has been noted that mobile workers are more likely to work longer hours and with greater productivity. However, only 26 per cent of respondents believed that bringing their own devices in to work improved their productivity.

35 per cent of the respondents admitted they could not go a day without accessing a social network and 47 per cent said they could go a day with out SMS messaging.
