Just 28 of 500 top US bosses have a Twitter account

68% of CEOs aren’t on social networks

More than two thirds of top company CEOs do not have a presence on social networks online, a new study has found.

Some 68 per cent of the 500 bosses working in the biggest companies in the US have no social media presence, according to the 2013 Social CEO Report by CEO.com. Microsoft’s Steve Bullmer (pictured) is not on Twitter, for example.

Just 28 of those 500 have a Twitter account, and 19 of them actually use it, including News Corp’s Rupert Murdoch and Yahoo’s Marissa Mayer.

However, while the top 500 CEOs aren’t too keen on the likes of Twitter and Facebook, the number of those on business network LinkedIn has risen 25.9 per cent year-on-year to 140.

“LinkedIn remains the one social media platform that is actually more popular with CEOs than the general public,” the study said.
