Apparently politics qualifies as ‘adult content’

3UK porn filter blocks political satire

3UK’s mandatory porn filter has been filtering out political satire websites, claiming that they contain ‘adult content’.

According to Tech Dirt, one blogger contacted the mobile operator via Twitter to find out why his site had been blocked.

After pointing out that his site didn’t contain any porn, he received a response stating that “we don’t just block adult websites, websites with mature content may also be censored.”

Apparently political satire is now blocked for any 3UK user who hasn’t personally verified their age with the mobile network. This requires them to contact 3UK and hand over their personal information in order to get the block lifted.

A number of indignant users have pointed out that this makes the desire to read political satire tantamount to the desire to watch porn.
