UKFast achieves ISO 27017 cloud security standard

British cloud hosting specialist UKFast has achieved the latest cloud security standard, ISO 27017.

UKFast says the new 27017 certification adds further proof of high-level cloud security controls and reaffirms its commitment to securing clients’ data and strengthening its cloud infrastructure.

ISO 27017 provides guidance on security aspects of cloud computing, recommending the implementation of cloud-specific information security controls, demonstrating the employment of best practice protocols by providers.

The standard requires providers to demonstrate that they inform clients about how their data is protected and the steps taken during the building and deployment of solutions to ensure adequate levels of security. Holders of the standard must also demonstrate a stringent process of internal auditing and regular training for technical teams.

“When it comes to cloud security, a lot depends on having a good relationship with your provider. Businesses need to understand how their cloud is protected. Who has access to your data and how are they vetted? What technical controls protect it and how is it monitored?” said UKFast CEO Lawrence Jones.

“ISO 27017 ensures providers have systems in place, not only to protect data, but also to help their customers understand how it is protected. We’re incredibly proud that our eCloud stands up to the most rigorous standards of industry testing.”

The accrediting body, Lloyd’s Register, is the world’s leading provider of independent assessment services, with recognition from more than 50 accreditation bodies.

The accreditor conducts regular check-up surveillance visits to ensure UKFast’s security remains worthy of the certification.

UKFast’s flagship eCloud portfolio includes private, hybrid and public cloud options, alongside open source development platform eCloud Flex and drag-and-drop storage solution eCloud Vault. The firm also offers a range of additional security solutions and features.
