The success of cloud adoption within Britain’s IT channel depends greatly on the relationship between end-users, a relationship that is crucial if cloud solutions are to be embraced ,according to a new report.

The report by Intermedia, 65 per cent of the UK IT channel offers cloud services, which also says that the channel’s perception of cloud adoption has improved.

The report also highlights the benefits of transparency when it comes to informing end-users about cloud adoption. Another key takeaway that this report states is that the channel is placing far too much emphasis on cost surrounding their marketing efforts.

Alex Hilton, CEO of the Cloud Industry Forum, said: “The channel is clearly struggling when it comes to cloud deployments and is missing out on major opportunities as a result.

“We have seen end-user adoption of cloud-based services rocket in recent years, with 78 per cent of end-user organisations using at least one cloud-based service today, up from 61 per cent in 2012, but the channel hasn’t been able to keep up with demand.

“Resellers that do sell cloud services are reporting a wide range of benefits, from an improved competitive edge to extended revenues and market reach. This puts channel resellers that haven’t yet made the move at a distinct disadvantage”.

The UK IT channel needs additional support from vendors if issues such as data sovereignty, a key concern for end-users are to be addressed.

It will be this transparency surrounding data protection that will reassure end-users and help them to feel more relaxed about using cloud-based services.
