Dixons Retail’s PC gaming and components category manager Simon Urquhart has left the business, PCR understands.
As well as handling buying for PC World and Currys’ gaming products, Urquhart was also responsible for opening Dixons Retail’s Gaming Bunker in London, which lets consumers try out the latest PCs, accessories and games.
Several industry sources confirmed to PCR that Urquhart is no longer a part of Dixons, and claimed that he had planned to open a total of 10 gaming-specific stores for Dixons Retail.
Urquhart’s LinkedIn profile also states that he worked for Dixons Retail between May 2010 and April 2014.
His profile reads: "I’m looking to work extensively in the electronic entertainment industry and become a major influence in the UK market. Always willing to talk about opportunities to grow gaming and support good products and people."
His Twitter profile adds: "Re-tooling for another assault on the world of gaming."
PC World doesn’t dedicate lots of space to gaming in its stores, and following Urquhart’s departure, it’s unclear what the retailer’s stance on PC gaming will be going forwards.
However, Urquhart was planning to stock Valve’s upcoming PC gaming Steam Machines.
PCR has contacted Dixons Retail and is expecting a comment on the news shortly.
