CEO Brendan Iribe hopes that the Oculus Rift headset will eventually become free at the point of purchase.
At the moment, the virtual reality headset is only available as a $300 dev kit, but the firm says that it has been thinking about how to make it free.
“We’d love it to be free one day,” said Iribe in an interview with Edge. “You want everybody to play it and the cheaper it is, the more people are going to go out and buy it. Today it’s a $300 dev kit but we’re thinking about how to get it out to as many people as possible.”
Last year, the Oculus Rift reached its target of $250,000 within its first four hours of going live on Kickstarter and has gained support by some of the PC games industry’s leading figures, including Doom creator John Carmack and Valve’s Gabe Newell.
Kalypso Media has recently announced that its new vampire-themed title Dark will feature support for the virtual reality headset.
