Nokia has ruled out a return to smartphone manufacturing after dismissing a report suggesting it would.
Rumours surfaced stating that Nokia is planning on returning to the phone market in 2016.
However, a statement issued by Nokia, read: “Nokia notes recent news reports claiming the company communicated an intention to manufacture consumer handsets out of a R&D facility in China. These reports are false, and include comments incorrectly attributed to a Nokia Networks executive.
“Nokia reiterates it currently has no plans to manufacture or sell consumer handsets.”
Re/code revealed this month that Nokia had plans to rejoin the market next year, but it seems this is unlikely.
This news comes after Microsoft acquired Nokia in a deal worth £4.61 billion.
