Production for notebooks featuring the updated OS are set to start mid-September

Windows 8.1 reportedly to launch in late October

DigiTimes has reported that Microsoft’s free update for Windows 8 is estimated to arrive in October 2013.

Sources from related ODMs told the site that notebooks featuring the update (codenamed Windows Blue) are set to start volume production in mid-September with the official launch happening late October.

This is the first major update for Windows 8 and it is rumoured to include a solution to Windows 8’s lack of a start button.

A preview version of the OS will be opened to the public at Build 2013 on June 26th.
