There’s a lot going on in the Samsung camp right now

Samsung plans Tizen smartphone, patents Galaxy Glass and trademarks Gear Clock

Not content with the recent launch of three new wearable devices and the Galaxy S5 flagship smartphone, the firm has announced that a smartphone running Tizen OS is also on the way.

Senior vice president Yoon Han-kil has told Reuters that Samsung will launch at least two smartphones running the Linux-based mobile operating system before August 2014.

Yoon said that although Android "still needs to be our main business", Tizen will be used for markets that Android could not address.

Meanwhile, Samsung’s Galaxy Glass, the firm’s upcoming Google Glass rival, has been unveiled by a patent filing.

The patent shows what has been described as an ‘earphone’, although it appears to be a headset with a single display in front of the wearer’s right eye – monocle style.

The ‘earphone’ reference becomes a little clearer once you see the mock up of the device being worn. Rather than standard eyewear arms, it has a single earpiece to hold it in place.

According to the patent filing, the display will be constructed from a transparent synthetic resin material and will offer wearable augmented reality and a “real life experience of being able to listen to a variety of sources”.

In addition to this, Samsung has also trademarked ‘Gear Clock’. The name suggests that the product will be another addition to its smartwatch range.
