13.3-inch device due to launch in January 2015

MSI GS30 Shadow notebook comes with a dock that boosts graphics performance

PC gaming vendor MSI has revealed a new gaming notebook which, when placed on its accompanying dock, gets a boost in graphics power.

The 13.3-inch GS30 Shadow packs the latest Intel 4th Gen Core i7 and Iris Pro graphics, weighing 1.3kg with a 19.8mm height.

When placed on the GamingDock, the GS30 Shadow gets an increase in overall graphics performance and visual detail thanks to a desktop discrete graphics card sitting inside the dock.

Users can choose any desktop graphics card to insert into the dock by full bandwidth of PCI-e x16. The target launch date for the Shadow and the dock is January 2015.

Eric Kuo, vice president of global sales and marketing at MSI Notebook, said the GS30 Shadow is designed for mobile gamers who don’t want to compromise between portability and performance.

"MSI wants to create a new style of performance machine not only for gamers, but for stylish and cutting edge fashion users," the firm said in a statement.

"With support for DX11.1, OpenCL 1.2, OpenGL 4.0 and enhanced 4k x 2k, the GS30 Shadow sets the new benchmark for gaming notebooks and gets every user gaming everywhere."
