Lets partners purchase Azure from distributors rather than having to go direct

Microsoft: We promise to make it easier for resellers to work with us

Microsoft’s worldwide partner group’s corporate VP has reiterated his commitment to making it easier for resellers to work with Microsoft.

Phil Sorgen said: "When I started in this role I told you that my first priority is our joint success in the cloud. Secondly I promised to make it easier to do business with us.

"These two priorities are central to an incredibly exciting new opportunity for partners."

The news comes after Microsoft’s breakout session at PCR Boot Camp, where some resellers were caught in heated debate with the computing giant.

Sorgen also announced that cloud platform Microsoft Azure will be available for partners to resell in the Open Licensing programs on August 1st 2014.

Open Licensing is an entry-level pay-as-you-go program ‘recommended for small organisations’, claims Microsoft, which gives resellers a single identification number during a two-year agreement.

This means resellers can purchase Azure from a distributor rather than having to go direct with Microsoft.

"When you resell Azure in Open Licensing, you purchase tokens from your preferred distributor and apply the credit to the customer’s Azure Portal in increments of $100," added Josh Waldo, Microsoft’s senior director of cloud partner strategy.

"The credits can be used for any consumption-based service available in Azure. To add more credit, you simply purchase new tokens and add them to the account. This gives you the opportunity to manage your customer’s portal, setup services, and monitor consumption, all while maintaining a direct relationship."
