Microsoft has said that it does not intend to shut down the Games for Windows Live service – despite previously announcing that it would.
The firm previously took the Games for Windows Live (GfWL) marketplace offline in August of last year, before ‘prematurely’ announcing that the entire GfWL service – which enables online connectivity and multiplayer for certain titles – would be similarly pulled.
However, last week a Microsoft representative told Game Informer that the firm would continue to support the service for the foreseeable future.
“We are continuing to support the Games for Windows Live service,” they said.
“We remain committed to investing in PC gaming in the years ahead, and look forward to sharing more in the future.
"Although customers are unable to purchase new games from the marketplace or receive title updates, they can continue to enjoy previously purchased content by downloading them through the Games for Windows Live client as usual.”
The comments echo recent statements made by Microsoft head of gaming Phil Spencer, saying that PC gaming was still a ‘critical’ part of Microsoft’s business.
