12.5-inch model in notebook and tablet versions

Lenovo launches latest X-series X220 ultra portable

ThinkPad-maker Lenovo has launched the ThinkPad X220 ultraportable and the X220 convertible tablet PC.

The new entries to the firm’s thin and light X-series provide mobile business professionals with the "full performance and usability" of larger form factor laptops but in ultra portable designs, the company said.

"The ThinkPad X Series has everything a modern road warrior needs without compromises: low weight, long battery life and high performance," said Lenovo ThinkPad marketing boss Dilip Bhatia.

Among the new features are up to 15 hours of battery life with the standard 9-cell battery and 24-hours of life with the new ThinkPad external battery.

The X220 devices are based on Intel Core i3, i5 or i7 processors while all models offer 1366 x 768 resolution LCD displays based on Apple-like IPS technology. The display size has increased marginally from 12.1-inch to 12.5-inch, over the former ThinkPad X201 model.

Other options include a variety of capacities of Intel SSDs, memory up to 8GB and optional USB 3.0 connectivity.

The ThinkPad X220T convertable tablet is armed with a multitouch screen and smash resistant Gorilla Glass.

Lenovo said that the models will be shipping in April through the channel as well as direct sales on www.lenovo.com. No European pricing was provided but entry level models will start at $899 for the X220 and $1,199 for the X220T.
