Kingston Digital acquires USB tech and IronKey assets from Imation

Kingston Digital, the Flash memory affiliate of PC components and accessories vendor Kingston Technology, has acquired the USB technology and assets of IronKey from Imation Corp.

Kingston first launched its own DataTraveler encrypted USB Flash drive over 10 years ago. Now it has acquired one of its competitors in IronKey, an encrypted USB Flash drive brand, which has been part of the Imation family since 2011.

"The acquisition provides customers with a more comprehensive portfolio of products and services, and demonstrates Kingston’s commitment as the global leader in trusted encrypted solutions for mobile data," Kingston said in a statement.

During this integration process, Kingston says it wants to assure all parties that there will be ‘no immediate changes’ to the way business is transacted by channel partners currently supporting IronKey products.

"Kingston is known worldwide for its dedication and level of service to its partners, resellers and distributors, and our goal is to maintain strong communication and customer relationships during this time," the firm said.

IronKey customers with any questions can contact their current distribution or reseller partners, or email ironkey@kingston.com.

In addition to Kingston’s acquisition, encryption services leader DataLocker has purchased the IronKey Enterprise Management Services (EMS) platform which provides centralized management to encrypted USB drives.

DataLocker previously acquired the SafeConsole management system from BlockMaster, the solution that Kingston uses on its current management-ready encrypted USB Flash drives.

“The addition and integration of the IronKey brand with our own award-winning line of DataTraveler encrypted USB drives provides a dynamic range of encrypted solutions for customers of all levels who want to protect mobile data,” said Valentina Vitolo, Flash Business Manager at Kingston.

“Having our great partner DataLocker manage both the EMS and SafeConsole platforms is a win for all of our combined customers. We look forward to extending our relationship with DataLocker.”

More information will be coming during the RSA Conference 2016 in San Francisco, which takes place from February 29th to March 4th.

Kingston reps will be available for meetings at the DataLocker booth (North Expo #N3134).
