Latest device will feature a larger 3.75 inch screen and a redesigned 19-pin connector

iPhone 5 “will be released on September 21st”

The new iPhone 5 from Apple will ship on September 21st, according to sources close to the company.

A Chinese source first leaked the information yesterday to French site App4Phone, providing the specific release date, which it states was received directly from Apple.

As expected, the source also confirmed that the addition of the new 19-pin connector on the base of the device, which will render older accessories for the device obsolete unless used with a separate adapter.

Without an official announcement, the device is widely known as the iPhone 5 – however, Apple may well adopt the same approach it did with the latest iPad, which is simply known as ‘the new iPad’.

Other major changes to the latest model of the iPhone include an upgraded screen, which will now measure 3.75 inches rather than the previous 3.5 inches used on its predecessors.

It has been reported that the aim of the new connection port on the base of the device, is to save space so that the headphone jack, which is currently located on the top of the device, can be moved to its base as well.

After an extended legal battle between the two company’s, Apple will be weary of Samsung and its recent success with its latest smartphone – the Samsung Galaxy S3, which has already sold over 10 million units during its first two months of release.

The September release date surprised most analysts who predicted the device would be released in October, as was the previous iPhone 4S.

If true, it is widely believed that Apple’s decision to go with an earlier release date would be to compete directly with Samsung and its smartphone devices.
