Quad-core processors driving increased sales

Intel says desktop CPU demand growing

Intel’s general manager for its worldwide reseller channel organisation, Steve Dallman (pictured), has said that the desktop CPU market is still growing despite the laptop market outstripping it in terms of growth and volume sales, at a recent conference in Taiwan.

He said that Intel expects worldwide desktop CPU sales to grow by about nine per cent during the third quarter. He added that the channel has contributed to about 23 to 24 per cent of shipments.

He also said that growing demand for quad-core processors from various vendors was likely to cause further growth within the sector, adding that Intel has so far shipped two million of the processors since the lines launch in November 2006.
