Mainstream support for Windows 7 will end next year

HP pushing ‘back by popular demand’ Windows 7 PCs

HP is allowing users the option to order machines preinstalled with Windows 7 despite mainstream support for the OS ending in January 2015.

HP is billing the Windows 7 PCs as special offers ‘back by popular demand’, undermining Microsoft’s push for its latest operating system, Windows 8.

The offers have appeared in email flyers from HP and include a handful of desktops and notebooks.

First released in 2009, mainstream support will end next year. But there will be limited ‘extended’ support until 2020, where the OS will receive updates but will not receive warranty support or design and feature changes.
