Company says there is a "strong demand for change in the market".

Gem to distribute office products

Gem Distribution is making a move into the office products sector this year which it says could "dramatically reshape the industry for the future".

The trade-only large UK distributor of hardware, software and gaming products aims to offer a uniquely different proposition to the independent dealer and vendor community.

It plans to launch into office products in Q3 2013, with a mix of brands and new revenue opportunities, along with "exceptional" service and sales support.

Its product categories will include Office Products, EOS, PC/IT Hardware, Software, Networking, Print Hardware, Audio Visual, Consumer Electronics and Mobile Phones.

"Market research commissoned by Gem has shown that there is a strong demand for change in the market, with many independant office products dealers feeling that their current supply choices are severely limited and highlighting a growing unease over their current supply relationships," read a statement.

Anthony Haworth, Commercial Director, commented: "Given the enthusiasm and support of all the vendors and customers we have so far engaged with, we are confident we will bring to market a credible and benficial proposition. All partners value our approach and share in our optimisim."

Gem is a subsidiary of €13 billion parent company DCC and is headed up by Group Managing Director Chris Peacock. Gem employs over 250 staff at four sites across the UK, which are all owned by the company.

Gem has been running since 1984. Today Gem Group sales are in excess of £500 million.
