Sony has warned owners of its Vaio Fit 11A to stop using the hybrid device, due to a risk of fire.
The warning concerns the Panasonic-made batteries built into the device, which Sony said could possibly overheat and catch fire.
Sony explained three separate reports of batteries overheating and causing burns had been recorded.
Almost 26,000 units of the Vaio Fit 11A have been sold worldwide – with 7,000 of the hybrid system sold in Europe.
Sony added that it was attempting to identify computers at risk by serial number and was currently developing a way to provide necessary repairs or replacements. Further details were promised within two weeks.
The reports aren’t the first trouble the electronics giant has had with overheating – in 2010, Sony was forced to recall over half a million Vaio due to a temperature-control glitch that was reported to result in overheating and damage to the laptops.
