'There's still room for smaller tech etailers to take on the big boys'

Brian Trevaskiss from More Computers offers online retail advice to independent PC and tech dealers ahead of his talk at PCR Boot Camp next week.

"It is incredibly tough at the moment," he told PCR. "There are massive dominant retailers, low margins and increasing customer expectation.

"But the technology exists to make it easy to set up and there is still room for smart businesses to take on the big guys.

"There are some clever things indies can do to make sure they see a return on their online investment - I plan to cover them at Boot Camp."

Trevaskiss, who works as head of marketing and operations at MoreComputers.com, will be giving an interactive masterclass session on the day, helping dealers to successfully navigate online sales.

Once again the event will boast a mix of networking, invaluable conference talks and an exhibition where you can do business, followed by an expo drinks reception.

"My talk will be all about how to maximise your online sales, with practical advice on running your own e-commerce website, what not to do and what not to waste your time and money on," Trevaskiss added.

"I'll also cover how to overcome the pit falls of drop shipping, integrating with channel distribution, getting people to your website and making them buy when they get there. Plus, advice on how to take on the large established online retailers and win."

Trevaskiss originally trained in graphic design and moved into marketing management within the IT channel. He has around 20 years of IT retail experience - both online and offline.

"The past nine years have been spent developing MoreComputers.com, so my focus has been 100 per cent on online marketing and e-commerce," he added. "My wife also runs her own online store, so I'm more than familiar with the challenges of small businesses.

"I don't attend many events, but I like to be sure I get to Boot Camp. It's good to catch up with vendors and distributors. Even though we are an online retailer, it's good to talk to bricks and mortar retailers and get their perspective on things.

"I'm looking forward to the day and if anyone wants to talk one to one about online, I'm more than happy to spend sometime with them, there's a lot to consider and I won't be able to cover everything in my time slot."
