Disties are embracing the Internet of Things this year, with the likes of TD Azlan and Arrow announcing IoT-focused events.

Azlan, the value enterprise division of Tech Data, is to host a joint event with Cisco in early February, highlighting the business potential of the Internet of Everything (IoE) for resellers.

The ‘Turning IoE to Profit’ discussion, which takes place on the evening of Thursday 4th February at the ME Hotel, on The Strand in central London, will highlight the scale of the opportunity, which Cisco has estimated at $19 trillion over the next decade, and the role resellers can play in driving awareness and delivering solutions in key vertical markets.

The manufacturing and retail sectors are seen as the biggest areas of potential for IoE.

Andy Dow, group marketing director and Azlan director, who will be one of the speakers at the event, said: “The Internet of Everything (IoE) is being hailed as the next big trend in IT and the numbers are impressive. Yet for resellers, systems integrators and retailers, it’s not at all clear today how money can be made from IoE. More devices may be connected, but according to Cisco only seven percent of companies are ready for the IoE, so there is a massive gap to be filled and exploited in this market.”

Arrow Electronics has announced that it is participating in the NXP Smarter World Tour for the Internet of Things as a top level, Platinum sponsor. Arrow’s involvement will build on its own recently completed ‘IoT in Focus’ seminar series, which ran in eight countries across Europe.

Andrew Bickley, Arrow’s technology marketing director for EMEA, commented: “The NXP Smarter World Tour is a fantastic way to bring demonstrations of IoT enabling technologies directly to engineers. Through it, we can show exactly how NXP and Arrow can help accelerate the development and adoption of IoT solutions and services.”

Back in September, Arrow announced a new partnership with Solair, which aimed to make IoT applications easier for OEMs. Read more about that here.

This year’s DISTREE EMEA event will have a strong focus on smart home, with event director Alexandra Sinson saying the channel will play ‘a pivotal role in determining the speed of consumer adoption and purchasing’.
