Mantle was due to arrive alongside Battlefield 4 in November 2013

DirectX rival AMD Mantle delayed, aiming for January launch

AMD’s PC gaming API Mantle has suffered a second delay and is now due to arrive later this month.

Mantle is a Direct X alternative that will allow developers to more directly access PC AMD hardware, offering improved levels of performance for components such as AMD’s Radeon graphics cards.

Mantle was initially supposed to arrive alongside Battlefield 4 at the beginning of November. When that failed to materialise, Mantle was given a December 2013 release date.

“After much consideration, the decision was made to delay the Mantle patch for Battlefield 4,” AMD said in a statement.

“AMD continues to support [game developer] DICE on the public introduction of Mantle, and we are tremendously excited about the coming release for Battlefield 4. We are now targeting a January release and will have more information to share in the New Year.”
