Meanwhile, over five million people registered for Elder Scrolls Online beta

Diablo III expansion reaps 2.7 million sales in a week

Diablo III: Reaper of Souls has sold over 2.7 million copies in its first week.

The first expansion to Blizzard’s gothic dungeon-crawling role-playing game Diablo III, Reaper of Souls launched on March 25th for PC and Mac.

The sales include both digital and boxed copies of the expansion, Blizzard stated.

So far, players have defeated the expansion’s final boss, Death, 1.5 million times.

"With Reaper of Souls, we wanted to emphasize all the things that Diablo gamers have always loved about the series, from the dark gothic setting to the piles and piles of epic loot," said Blizzard CEO and co-founder Mike Morhaime.

"We’re excited to see that players are enjoying the changes we’ve made to the game, and we look forward to achieving our Paragon levels alongside everyone else in the weeks and months ahead."

Alongside several other additions, Reaper of Souls adds an extra main storyline act, the ‘Crusader’ character class, a new level cap of 70 and the randomised Adventure Mode to the brooding RPG.

The expansion will be included in the Diablo 3: Ultimate Evil Edition, reportedly set for a launch later this year for PS4 and in the future for Xbox One.

It seems to have been a successful week for PC-exclusive RPG titles, as Reaper of Souls wasn’t the only title to see promising player counts.

Bethesda’s beta for MMO Elder Scrolls Online was signed up for by over five million people – or the population of Norway.

The numbers were revealed in a series of infographics celebrating the game’s release on PC.
