The CEO of BlackBerry has confirmed that the struggling mobile firm is set to launch a phablet device.
Speaking during an earnings call, John Chen said that the device, dubbed the ‘Passport’, was currently in development.
Chen added that a September launch was expected, with the first units set to go on sale in early 2015.
The Passport features a 4.5-inch display with a resolution of 1400×1400.
Like the firm’s mobiles, the Passport also includes a physical QWERTY keyboard.
Previous rumours have suggested that a Snapdragon processor and Adreno 330 graphics chip will power the system, accompanied by 3GB of RAM and a 3,450mAh battery.
A new BlackBerry smartphone, the BlackBerry Classic, was also announced, with few details exposed.
The earnings call also revealed that BlackBerry has managed to wrestle its losses down by over $300 million (£176m).
The Canadian firm hit a profit of $23 million (£14m) for Q1 2014, following a loss of $423 million (£249m) in the previous quarter.
