Steve Ballmer has said that Bing could capture a majority share of the search market, despite the apparent domination of Google.
According to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, Ballmer told attendees at the Search Marketing Expo that: “The No. 1 thing that Google benefits from in search is they did it right first. We started later. There’s a value to incumbency.”
Asked if Bing could be the number one search engine in the US, he responded: “There’s no good answer to this question. If you say yes, you sound arrogant. If you say no, you sound like you’re happy with second place. No one aims to be second, so the answer is yes.”
He also hinted at a possible future acquisition of Twitter as an extension of the current ‘Bingtweets’ partnership that brings real-time search results to the search engine.
“I don’t think we can’t have that partnership," he said. "Whether we need to own them, that’s not clear.”
