Vendor's decision means AMD's use in laptops will drop to just 10 per cent

Asustek to increase Intel shipments

Asustek has announced that it will be increasing the proportion of new laptops that use Intel CPUs to 90 per cent, up from 70 per cent.

AMD will be particularly hard hit with Asus stating that it will be reducing the laptops lines that use its processors to just 10 per cent of its total, down from 30 per cent earlier this year.

Asus expects that laptop shipments for this year will hit 7.2 million, with branded laptops accounting for 4.2 million units.

It has already stated its ambitions to become one of the top-five laptop vendors by 2010, and a top-three vendor by 2013.
