Tech Data has been appointed as the exclusive B2B distributor for Microsoft’s Band 2 activity tracker.
The distie will be working with select resellers to drive commercial opportunities in key target verticals such as corporate wellness, blue light services, utilities, insurance, healthcare, and research.
The distributor will be collaborating with Microsoft to drive interest in the new device, which features 11 advanced sensors. In particular Tech Data will be looking to support resellers and ISVs who are interested in developing applications for deployment in commercial settings.
“It’s still very early days but we are already uncovering huge opportunities and creating some very interesting case studies,” said Michael Cain, business development manager for Wearables at Tech Data.
“Demand from our reseller partners has been huge and the initial ADR pilot programme that we launched with Microsoft at the start of the month has been really well received.”
The Band 2 features a new curved display and uses Cortana voice-activation so wearers can reply to texts or set reminders via the device.
Also this week, Tech Data Mobile has appointed Tom Schubert as its dedicated Android business development manager, providing additional support for customers taking Android-based smartphones and mobile devices to the business and consumer markets.
Schubert brings more than six-and-a-half years of experience in the mobile sector to the role, having previously worked with Phones 4u and A1 Comms in a variety of customer-centric and purchasing roles.
At Tech Data Mobile he will be responsible for supporting partners on every aspect of business development with Android devices. He will be working with the distributor’s leading Android vendor partners, including Samsung and Lenovo-Motorola, to support both B2B resellers and mobile dealers in driving sales opportunities in new markets.
