CMS Distribution celebrates 30th anniversary with leadership expansion

CMS Distribution has expanded its leadership team with three new directors: Tony Scully (sales director), Andrew Uden (director of retail services) and John Fitzgerald (chief information officer).

The appointments come at a time of growth for the distributor, which is celebrating 30 years in the business.

In 1988, Frank Salmon embarked on a journey to become the UK and Ireland’s largest independent storage distributor. By enabling people to transfer data from their desktop PCs to their portable notebooks using a 5¼-inch external floppy disk drive, the business started to connect vendors, resellers and end users which is still the essence of the business today.

Thirty years on, CMS Distribution has grown into a global business with over 350 employees in Europe, APAC and the US, and has made six acquisitions with revenue of just under £500m.

To continue and support this journey of growth and expansion, three new directors have been appointed in recent months.

Tony Scully is a channel veteran with over 30 years’ experience and tenures at Computers Unlimited, Exertis and TechData. He will lead the retail business to accelerate growth and drive operational excellence, so CMS Distribution can exceed customer and vendor expectations.

Andrew Uden agrees that CMS is an exciting place to work: “With the huge exponential growth within CMS, there is an opportunity to support the commercial operation in developing compliance measures that ensures we’re selecting the right products, minimising any potential risks and securing the supply chain, so we can step forward confidently and grow the business.”

Uden has come from an expansive 30-year career in technology, retail and aviation, and has worked with companies such as Maplin, Tesco, Walmart and the RAF.

To support future growth and operate on a global level, John Fitzgerald has brought his 25 years of experience in the financial industry to CMS Distribution. He envisages underpinning business operations and change while enabling, innovating and maximising efficiency. 

He’s worked with businesses such as AIB and EBS Limited and says about his role: “The goal is to maintain and enhance IT infrastructure, while introducing automated and data-driven insights and forecasting. I will also be focused on automating and improving the efficiency of processes and data-based decision making. This will deliver consistency, predictability and streamlined processes to allow greater flexibility in terms of integration and changes to the business.”
