Enterprise Android users are at risk of exposing corporate data, accounts and files to malware

‘Android KitKat 4.4 must improve to protect BYOD users’

Bitdefender’s chief security strategist Catalin Cosoi says the latest version of Android needs to massively improve in order to avoid future security incidents.

With the operating system surpassing iOS in terms of installations this year, Cosoi warned users that while there are benefits to using Android over iOS for enterprise, ‘Bring Your Own Device’ users are at particular risk of exposing corporate data, accounts and files to information-harvesting applications.

“One of the benefits of using Android for enterprise is the fact that it allows greater integration with mobile device management solutions,” explained Cosoi.

“Secondly, anti-virus and anti-theft solutions are much easier to manage via enterprise policies than other mobile operating systems."

“Of course, the downside is that Android is also much more targeted by malicious software than any other mobile platform – more than 90 per cent of existing mobile malware is currently targeting Android users.”
