Coverage approaching critical mass as operator nears break even

3 predicts mobile broadband to rival Wi-Fi in ’09

3’s UK chief executive Kevin Russell has said that this year will see the network’s HSDPA come into its own, as the mobile broadband revolution kicks into full swing.

Speaking to Mobile, Russell said: "The next year will illustrate the effect that HSDPA networks can have. With a high capacity network reaching across the country, you can start to impact the world of Wi-Fi."

It comes after the network operator revealed that a raft of cost reductions and deals with T-Mobile, as well as a boost in mobile broadband subscribers, had helped the firm to almost reach its break even target.
