IFA 2018: Sony’s new Xperia XZ3 smartphone comes with OLED TV screen

Sony has unveiled its new Xperia XZ3 smartphone at IFA 2018 – its first to feature an OLED display.

Using the same technology featured in Sony’s high-end Bravia TV line, the new smartphone comes with a HDR-compatible 6-inch display with a QHD+ (2880×1440) 18:9 aspect ratio.

“Users can enjoy absorbingly beautiful images enabled thanks to the award-winning BRAVIA OLED TV technologies,” said Sony.

With its advanced X-Reality for mobile, the phone’s screen can “up-convert” SDR content to near HDR – even when users are streaming online videos.

Whether you’re watching films or music videos, Sony’s Dynamic Vibration System analyses audio data and lets you feel the action with your hands. The front-facing speakers in Xperia XZ3 are Sony’s loudest ever, with high-quality audio from S-Force Front Surround.

Other specs include a new smart user interface ‘side sense’ using AI for one-handed screen navigation on the large display. The main camera features Sony’s advanced Motion Eye camera system, with 19.2 megapixels. Xperia XZ3 is also equipped with the new “Smart launch” with AI that instantly prepares the camera when users hold their phone up in landscape mode. The front camera offers 13.2 megapixels and a bright new F1.9 lens with a new portrait selfie mode for skin tone touch-ups and capturing background bokeh.

Sony’s Xperia XZ3 will launch on the latest Android 9 Pie and comes equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform, water and dust resistance, and Qi wireless charging compatibility.
