Google allegedly geared up for first permanent physical retail store

Google is set to launch its first ever permanent store in a 14,000 square foot retail space in Chicago.

According to a local report at the Chicago Tribune, the store will open in the city’s Fulton Market District. The store will be just a few blocks away from Google’s Midwest headquarters.

So far all of Google’s previous retail ventures have been pop-ups in other stores. The new permanent Chicago space will give consumers a chance to get hands-on with Google’s expanding line of products, including its Nest products, Pixel phones, Google Home smart speaker, VR headsets and Chromecast smart dongle.

Through a spokesperson, Google said the company does not comment "on rumors and speculation."

According to Ad Age, this isn’t the first time Google has planned to open a permanent store. In 2015, Google abandoned plans to open a store in New York City, after spending $6 million renovating the location.
