Tech Data appoints new security director

One of the most prominent topics in the tech conversation in 2017 is cyber security. This year we’ve seen prominent attacks such as NotPetya, Wannacry and Bad Rabbit affect millions of PCs all over the world. In response to what critics have called a lack of action across the industry, distributor Tech Data has announced the appointment of David Ellis to the role of director of security solutions, Europe.

In his new role, the ex-Computer Links man will oversee the expansion of Tech Data’s portfolio of innovative security offerings, as well as the in-country dedicated security team investments across Europe. He will report to Simon England, senior vice president, Next-Generation Technologies, Europe.

“Security is a key focus for Tech Data as part of our strategy for next-generation technologies,” said England. “As we aim to significantly grow and innovate in today’s fragmented and highly complex security market, David’s wealth of experience will help us carry this plan forward. We are very pleased to have him join our team.”

Commenting on his new role, Ellis said, “I am delighted to lead and grow one of Tech Data’s most progressive next-generation solutions, and I am impressed by the high levels of focus and commitment to security at Tech Data.

"My key objectives are to ensure that our partners in Europe benefit from an increasingly diverse, innovative and differentiated portfolio of security solutions, and that we support them to accelerate growth with the right go-to-market tools and solution enablement plans that deliver true business outcomes for their customers.”

Ellis’ security and associated services experience comes from previous roles at Exclusive Group, Arrow ECS, Computer Links, and Unipalm.
