Raspberry Pi has unveiled the latest entry into its credit card-sized single-card computers: the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled Raspberry Pi Zero W, costing $10 (UK pricing still to be confirmed, but should be around £8 or £9).
Zero W is the updated version of the Raspberry Pi Zero that was introduced back in October 2015. In terms of specs, Zero W has the same trimmings as its predecessor – 1GHz single-core Broadcom BCM2835 CPU, 512MB of RAM, 40-pin header – but the Zero W adds both 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0.
The foundation hopes that the addition of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth will help makers to create more dynamic and versatile projects. People have already used the Zero to create a whole range of stuff from homemade security cameras to games consoles.
With its inexpensive cost, vibrant online community full of tutorials and guides, and general accessible open platform, the Raspberry Pi Zero presents a compelling launching off point for people interested in getting into system building.
The Raspberry Pi Zero W will be available today in the UK through the foundation’s distributors – Pimo Roni, The Pi Hut, and Mod My Pi.
