You may have thought that Acer had taken the mantle of the world’s silliest laptop last September when it launched its 21-inch Predator 21 at IFA, but Razer has snatched the crown with what it has dubbed Project Valerie. Its hook? Not one, not two, but three 4K displays.
In terms of aesthetics, Valerie bears a strong resemblance to the Razer Blade Pro but instead of one 17.3-inch 4K IGZO display the new laptop has a stack of screens that slide into a three-display setup. This effectively creates a 12K widescreen experience.
With its hefty 5.4kg weight and 1.5-inch thickness, Valerie is not really much of a portable device and is effectively a desktop replacement.
Much like the Blade Pro, Valerie sports a Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 graphics card and exceeds the recommended specs for Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. It also possesses the same mechanical keyboard as the Pro, but asides from that we don’t know the exact specs, since Valerie is a concept design.
While the added real estate of the screens might be a plus to a user’s gaming experience, the extra screens will take a hefty toll on battery life which for the Blade Pro stands at four hours. Though, being a desktop replacement it is unlikely that many users will spend much of their time unplugged.
Again, as this is a concept, we don’t have an idea of cost, but the Blade Pro starts at an eyewatering £3,499 and Valerie is not likely to be any cheaper than that.
