Half of faulty Note 7 phones have been exchanged in the US

Hal of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7s in the US have been exchanged, according to a statement from Samsung. 

A succinct statement from the South Korean phone maker’s American branch read:

Samsung Electronics America, Inc. announced today that about half of all recalled Galaxy Note7 phones sold in the U.S. have been exchanged through Samsung’s voluntary recall. Additionally, 90 percent of Galaxy Note7 owners have been opting to receive the new Galaxy Note7 since the phones became widely available on Wednesday, September 21.

While this is a positive update on a story that has thus far only seen disaster after disaster, this statement is only speaking of the recall’s success in the US. Up to 2.5 million defective Galaxy Note 7 phones were shipped worldwide with approximately 1 million of those hitting the States.

Earlier this week, Samsung announced concrete plans for the Note 7 recall in the UK, asking anyone with a phone to contact the outlet they purchased it from.


While this has been an economic disaster for Samsung – which saw its stock plummet $6 billion after news of the exploding batteries – many have been praising of the company for its swift and decisive action.
