Logitech buys Saitek for $13 million

Logitech has purchased Saitek and its entire line of flight simulator peripherals for $13 million.

The acquisition of the simulation specialist from MadCatz, will further align Logitech with the gaming market – especially the lucrative niche flight simulation peripherals.

With the ever growing presence of virtual reality (VR) in gaming, this deal could be made with a view to creating more immersive experiences. Saitek’s reputation for its line of flight and space simulation game controllers would certainly explore Logitech’s desire to align itself more closely with this niche market.

Ujesh Desai, vice president for Logitech, said: We’re excited to be a bigger part of the simulation community. We already make gaming wheels for the driving simulation market and this new line of products will provide an even more complete experience.

“We care about this space and want to do right by its fans. We have a vision that will take these products further, faster. Stay tuned for future updates, as we further integrate the Saitek products into our overall Logitech G portfolio.”

In a blog post, Desai presented Logitech’s view that simulation games are ‘cool and getting cooler’, reinforcing that the company’s most recent purchase is all about getting more involved with this particularly lucrative portion of the gaming world.
