New gear: Google Home wireless speaker, HP’s world’s first production-ready 3D printer

Google has unveiled a voice-controlled wireless speaker called Google Home. Described as an AI-powered robot assistant, the speaker is designed to respond to its owner’s every command, including checking the weather, answering questions, creating lists and sending messages. The device is a rival to the Amazon Echo and will be released later this year.

HP has unveiled the world’s first production-ready commercial 3D printing system. The HP Jet Fusion 3D Printing Solution ‘revolutionises design, prototyping and manufacturing, and for the first time, delivers superior quality physical parts up to 10 times faster and at half the cost of current 3D print systems’. Designed for model shops and 3D print service bureaus, the HP Jet Fusion 3D Printing Solution offers reduced cost for radical prototyping, as well as open materials and a software innovation platform that lowers barriers to adoption and enables new applications across industries.

HP has also introduced the EliteBook 1030, which features a 12.5-inch CNC-machined aluminium body, and includes a 13.3-inch screen with an optional QHD+ (3200×1800) display. This gives you a thin and light notebook that’s designed to pass MIL-STD tests at only 15.7 mm thin and 2.55 lbs. It comes with a 6th generation Intel Core M processor and will be available from June 1st with a starting price of £1,000.

Verbatim’s new 100GB MDISC Blu-ray disc has an average lifetime of more than 1,000 years and high data storage capacity making it ideal for archiving. Incorporating titanium for added longevity, the Verbatim MDISC Blu-ray disc preserves stored data by engraving the information into a ‘rock-like’ recording layer resistant to light, temperature, and humidity. Verbatim’s MDISC Blu-ray disc is compatible with any BDXL capable Blu-ray drive. Virtually all Blu-ray writers and players manufactured within the last 18 months are compatible with BDXL.

The Huawei MediaPad M2 10.1-inch tablet is now on sale from Currys PC World. The MediaPad M2 10-inch runs the Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system, with the Huawei Emotion UI 3.1 overlay. The premium edition is powered by Octacore processors (Quad-core 2.0GHz + Quad 1.5GHz), with 3GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.

Epson has announced its new Print365 printing package for smaller businesses, allowing them to enjoy a fully-serviced printing model with low, fixed fees. It’s the first all-encompassing print solution designed specifically for SMEs. A number of bundles are available depending on customer needs, including an All You Can Print package that delivers virtually unlimited printing. An easy-to-install assessment tool makes it easy for customers to analyse their printing needs before purchasing, and to select the right package for them.

D-Link has unveiled the world’s first Wireless AC camera that offers a 180-degree view of a room, without any delay. Features include HD 720p quality video, wireless AC, motion and sound detection, and night vision. The camera has an SRP of £122.48.

Sage has announced a new release of Sage Live for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch that helps Small & Medium businesses increase their agility. The app makes real-time collaboration easier and more efficient.
