Retailer Overclockers UK has announced the extension of its showroom to provide a permanent Vive Room Scale VR Experience in The Midlands.
Room Scale VR will allow users with a Vive headset to move around and interact with a virtual environment – in the comfort of their own home. With the new OCUK 20m sq room, consumers will be able to test out a truly immersive experience using the retailer’s Virtual Reality Certified hardware.
The experience will launch with a special event at the OCUK Newcastle-Under-Lyme showroom on the 19th March. The event is open to the public and there is an online booking system in place allowing users to reserve their very own VR Experience.
The Room Scale VR Experience will be a permanent feature at the retailer’s store. More information can be found on the Overclockers UK website at www.overclockers.co.uk/virtual-reality.
The Vive headset will be powered by an OCUK VR Gaming PC. The retailer has a full range of out of box solutions, starting from £749.
A senior source in the UK tech channel revealed OCUK’s VR showroom plans to PCR last week, saying that the retailer’s now Vive experience room will allow customers to experience room-scale virtual reality and walk around for a more immersive experience, rather than sit down and try out VR more passively.
OCUK has also officially partnered with HTC to ensure gamers have the right hardware for the Vive headset. The partnership sees OCUK offering advice to gamers on upgrading hardware to get VR ready.
Valve has also released a free SteamVR tool to calculate if your current PC is powerful enough to use the HTC Vive VR headset.
The test features high quality VR content from the Aperture Science Robot Repair demo, designed specifically for the HTC Vive.
The app can be run on any PC and does not require a headset to be connected to the system. It’s available for anyone to download and test their system.
