Overclockers UK and HTC partner for Vive-ready VR gaming PCs

Overclockers UK has officially partnered with HTC to ensure gamers have the right hardware for the Vive headset, which went on sale this week.

The HTC Vive is a SteamVR-powered headset that uses 360-degree room-scale tech. It’s available for pre-order now, with UK shipments expected in April. The £689 price tag (which doesn’t include estimated £57.60 shipping fee), includes the headset, two handheld controllers, and two base stations.

The partnership sees OCUK offering advice to gamers on upgrading hardware to get VR ready. You can use Valve’s free SteamVR tool to calculate if your current PC is up to scratch – OCUK recommends having a score of 6 to 7 or above to be VR Ready at the minimum requirement.

The online retailer recommends either the AMD Radeon 390 graphics card, or the NVIDIA GTX 970 graphics card.

“For the absolute best, the user needs a score of 10 to 11 in the SteamVR benchmark. Overclockers UK highly recommends the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980Ti or Titan X and from AMD – a R9 Nano or a Fury X. We really recommends a high performance graphics card to achieve the very best possible VR experience,” said the firm.

OCUK currently has a range of VR gaming PCs that have been extensively tested in-house in a vast range of configurations, with price points starting from £749.

Virtual reality hardware can be purchased from OCUK, including upgrading your current computer system to support VR, VR compatible simulator peripherals, and complete VR computer system packages.

The retailer will also be attending this year’s VR World Congress on April 12th in Bristol, UK to demonstrate its latest VR gaming PCs with Vive.
