Today Synology has bolstered its range of NAS servers with three new devices, including the DiskStation DS416, DS216play and DS216se.
Designed to address the needs for more efficient and encrypted storage for small businesses, the DS416 (pictured left) features a 1.4 GHz dual-core CPU with a dedicated hardware encryption engine, 1GB of RAM and two LAN ports.
The server is also able to reach transfer speeds of 221.05 MB/s reading speed under RAID 5 configuration on Windows, and over 139.51 MB/s writing speeds.
Three USB 3.0 ports are also included, plus the disk trays benefit from Synology’s tool-less design, which are also hot swappable.
Synology’s DS216play (pictured above) for home users features real-time 1080p H.264 and 4K H.265 Ultra HD video transcoding capabilities, which allows users to stream 4K digital TV and movies to digital players, mobiles and computers.
It houses a 1.5GHz dual-core CPU and 1GB of RAM, plus the NAS delivers an average of 107 MB/s reading and 91 MB/s writing speeds under RAID 1 configuration on Windows.
Both of the NAS devices run on Disk Station Manager (DSM) 5.2, and are currently available worldwide, with the DS216play costing £186, while the DS416 is priced at £330.

“DS416 has been designed to provide an all-in-one NAS server optimised for encryption, making it an affordable server for sensitive data transmission. DS216play, thanks to its powerful 4K transcoding capabilities, is a high-value NAS server for home users.”
Lastly, the firm has unveiled the DiskStation DS216se (pictured above), a budget-friendly two-bay NAS with the capability to host, share and protect data.
For example, a floating point unit has been installed inside the NAS, which supports multimedia processing, plus it consumes 5.12W of power whilst in hibernation mode.
In addition, the DS216se delivers an average 102 MB/s reading speeds under RAID 1 configuration on Windows, and over 59 MB/s writing speeds.
The NAS is also available now, and will cost customers £98.40.
