When it comes to the issues facing today’s IT administration, security gaps have been named as the top concern.
The survey, conducted by Paessler AG, polled 266 IT professionals across the US, UK and Germany and found that 58 per cent of respondents cited security gaps as a ‘significant issue’ or a ‘somewhat significant issue’.
“These survey results not only highlight the continuing rise of security concerns, but also help identify an opportunity for network management to play an important role in an organisation’s security strategy,” said Christian Twardawa, chief operating officer at Paessler AG.
“Rather than acting as a front line security tool like a virus scanner, network monitoring is more like a security command centre that oversees the whole security picture of a network. It can keep an eye on your current security solutions, making sure they’re online, while simultaneously looking for under-the-radar activity.”
The respondents were asked to identify their top problem areas among a wide range of choices, including: identify hardware issues, guarantee uptime, increasing bandwidth usage, Shadow IT, mail server availability, server hang-ups, security gaps, environmental values, website performance, virtual machines, database performance, VoIP sound quality, video streaming issues, and backups.
The survey identified the following top three concerns as being a significant issue or a somewhat significant issue:
– Security gaps – 58 per cent
– Guarantee uptime – 52 per cent
– Increasing bandwidth usage – 48 per cent
