Tech Data announces senior appointments

Tech Data Mobile has bolstered its team, by appointing its first dedicated Android business development manager, with the aim of driving higher sales through B2B IT resellers.

James Turner (pictured right) joins the distributor from Motorola, where he spent four years as national accounts manager, working with retail and direct mail partners.

In his new role, Turner will work with the distributor’s Android vendor partners, including Samsung and Motorola, to help support resellers in increasing their sales.

David Brassington, vendor director at Tech Data Mobile, said: “We have built-up a real head of steam with our Android partners and this appointment is further evidence of our commitment and determination to continue that momentum.

“Google remains a key strategic partner for Tech Data and focusing our resources on Android to complement the wider Google ecosystem of products and services we offer is key. With the exciting and broad range of products and services Tech Data Mobile can offer, we feel there is more potential to exploit with Android devices.”

Turner added: “This is a very exciting time to be joining Tech Data Mobile. I am really looking forward to working with our B2B, as well as our retail and mobile dealer partners to make sure they are aware of all the exceptional new Android devices that our leading vendor partners are bringing to market, and the added potential they present to grow sales.”

A number of new product launches are also expected within the next few weeks, plus the distributor is also looking to add new vendors of Android solutions to its portfolio before the end of the year.

Brassington commented: “We are executing on our strategic plan for 2015. The next phase will see us bringing new and complementary vendor partners on board.

“This will allow Tech Data Mobile to position ourselves at the forefront of technological innovation, reaching further into the market and offering even more choice and opportunity to more resellers and dealers in all sectors of the market.”

In addition, Tech Data has appointed its first dedicated business development executive for HP multifunctional devices covering the UK and Ireland markets.

Mike Leary (pictured left) has moved across to this newly-created post having spent the last three years working on cross-vendor business development within the print and supplies team.

He previously held the position of senior retail account manager and has worked at Tech Data for almost a decade in total.

Leary said: “This is a great opportunity for me and I’m looking forward to working with HP print partners across the UK and Ireland to help them increase their focus and drive new business.

"HP’s managed print offerings will be one of the key areas I’ll be working on, helping resellers to understand the benefits of always having access to the latest and best HP technology and optimising the usage of print devices and consumption of accessories. This is a big opportunity and one we really want to develop.”
