Apple has promoted Jony Ive, the firm’s senior VP of design, to chief design officer.
Ive will now be responsible for designing various aspects of the new Apple Campus 2, from its oak chairs to the desks, which will be able to raise or lower people.
Video footage of the ‘spaceship’ HQ has previously been revealed, which is a circular building four storeys high and is expected to house around 12,000 employees.
Plus, according to The Telegraph, Ive said he will take direct control over retail store design around the world and will be in charge of user interface.
As part of Ive’s new job role, two other employees have also been promoted.
Richard Howarth will be the company’s new head of industrial design, while Alan Dye will be Apple’s new head of user interface.
Ive said: “I am called Chief Design Officer. Having Alan and Richard in place frees me up from some of the administrative and management work.”
Ive helped to design various products, including the iPod, iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch.
He also received a knighthood back in 2012 for his services to design.
In an internal memo sent to employees via 9to5Mac, Tim Cook added: “Jony is one of the most talented and accomplished designers of his generation, with an astonishing 5,000 design and utility patents to his name."
