Intel’s UK channel sales manager Matthew Birch (pictured), spoke to attendees today at Boot Camp about the future of computing.
High on the agenda for Birch was Moore’s Law and what it currently has to say about the future path of the tech industry.
Gordon Moore, co-founder of Intel, first published a paperback in 1965 predicting what the future had in store for the semiconductor and last month saw Intel celebrate the 50th anniversary of the law.
Birch said: "We celebrated the 50th anniversary of Morre’s Law about three weeks ago.
"He predicted that the number of transistors on a micro chip would double in the next few years and Intel has always found a way to get that next generation of products hitting Moore’s Law."
Birch also discussed the wider tech world and where Intel believes it will head, for example he focused on smaller form factors such as Intel’s Compute Stick.
"The Compute Stick that we started shipping this week, is a HDMI PC on a stick with a full networking compute operating system, storage and Bluetooth, and if you went back 30 years this would need a box to hold it all."
He also touched on the growth in wireless devices, and revealed that the chip maker will be launching a wireless docking technology called WiGig, which will allow users to connect wirelessly and use Bluetooth.
Birch also believes that passwords will become a thing of the past, as more devices take on facial and voice recognition.
The company also talked up its future Skylake processors, and also recently announced its new Xeon processor E7-8800/4800 v3 product families.
The new processors help customers to process and analyse massive data sets in system memory for faster decision-making and improved operational efficiency.
