Amazon has teamed up with Audi and DHL to trial car boot deliveries in Munich, Germany.
A post on Amazon.de’s blog says that DHL delivery drivers will be given a temporary code that works with certain Audi models. The code will allow them to access into the boot where they can leave the package.
The unique code only works for a short period of time, and once the trunk has been opened and closed again, the code will become void.
The delivery person will use a specially designed app that displays the exact location of the vehicle, and allows them to send confirmation of delivery to the customer.
The trial service is available for a select number of Audi owners, and if successful may expand accordingly. It is currently only available for Amazon Prime customers, and also allows users to send packages from the boot of their car potentially saving hours of waiting in line at the Post Office, or sitting at home waiting for a delivery.
There are understandably a number of security concerns surrounding this method of delivery, however Audi has said that the safety and security of its customers’ cars is its “top priority”.
Michael Pasch, director of EU Amazon Prime, commented: “We are working to offer Prime members a delivery location that is always available and convenient: the trunk of their car.
“This innovation makes shopping at Amazon even easier and more flexible. It gives customers another way to receive their orders.”
